8x8 book illustrations

8x8 is an end of level 4 illustration project I was set to complete over the summer of 2014, if i was successful, it would get published! exciting times!
I was given the story "when I saw you last"by Rebecca Lopuc,
befire I even started the process I had a few chats with Rebecca, to get to know the story a little better, its a WW2 concentration camp story, really brutal hard hitting stuff, that I later found out was a true story that Rebecca had been inspired to write based around her Grandads life during the war! WOW! the pressure is on my shoulders now right!! almost wish I hadnt asked her, but I felt comfident none the less.
Two images were required, the first a banner for the top of the main page, I wanted it to have color, but not alot, have the bold black images grab all of the attention, after all there is nothing upbeat and colorful about this story.

This is the final banner I produced, a mixure of my artwork and photoshop...

                                                                Single Page Banner

Second was the full page spread, which had to capture the entire essence of the story. Again, no bright colors,  bold powerful images, all brought together in photoshop...

Full Page Spread for the story - "when i saw you last"

I enjoyed this project alot, my first collaborative effort with a writer, I havnt yet had any feedback from Rebecca, cant wait to find out, because im more than happy with the work I have produced.
